Colonials Comeback to Defeat the Cardinal 5-4, Falls to Denison 7-2

ANNAPOLIS, MD - The George Washington University's men's squash team went 1-1 over the weekend, defeating No. 20 Stanford 5-4 and losing to Denison 7-2.

GW's number one player senior Greg Vernick battled through hand and thigh cramps to win two of three matches for the Colonials.

The Colonials played their first home match of the season Friday night against the Cardinal, who arrived over one hour late to the match due to flight delays, and rallied to win the last two individual matches to grab the team match in front of a rowdy crowd of over 100 people in GW's Health and Wellness Cener.

GW trailed Stanford 4-3, but wins by Jarryd Commerford (9-7, 9-2, 10-9) and Bradley Birenbaum (9-2, 9-3, 9-0) carried the Colonials to a thrilling 5-4 come-from-behind victory over the nationally ranked Cardinal.

The next day GW traveled to Annapolis, MD, to play in a tournament hosted by Navy.

GW dropped its match to Denison as senior Tyler Wolas (9-5, 5-9, 6-9, 9-0) and Michael Greenwald (10-8, 0-9, 9-7, 9-6) posted the Colonials only two wins of the match.

GW returns to Annapolis, MD, Saturday, Nov. 19, to face Navy and Dartmouth.
