GW's Lerner Health & Wellness Center to host U.S. Squash's Washington Gold Tournament
Nationally-Sanctioned Junior Tournament to be Held on Campus This Weekend
WASHINGTON - The Matthew J. Grossman Squash Courts at Lerner Health & Wellness Center will play host to the 'Washington Gold' Tournament - the largest junior squash tournament ever held in the district - this weekend.
The 'Washington Gold' is a nationally-sanctioned junior tournament affiliated with U.S. Squash. The tournament will welcome 205 entrants from 15 states and Canada to the GW Squash facilities. All entrants are ranked in the Top 32 of the junior rankings of U.S. Squash. GW will host the U-19 and U-17 Girls and Boys divisions.
Additional squash facilities throughout the District will host other divisions - Bethesda Health & Racquet Club, Results Gym, Sports Club LA and the University Club.
"I have been eager to hold a junior event here at the Lerner Health & Wellness Center since I arrived on campus," said GW Squash Head Coach Wendy Lawrence. "This is a great opportunity to showcase the Matthew J. Grossman Squash Courts and to introduce nationally-ranked junior players to the game at the collegiate level. It also gives these kids a chance to see our beautiful facilities, check out our campus and compete in a high-level atmosphere in front of a large crowd."
The tournament begins Friday at 4 p.m., and will run throughout the weekend, concluding with Sunday's finals between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
