WASHINGTON -- In the final day of the URI Invitational in Kingston, RI, the Colonials came up with two first place finishes in GW's first competition of 2010. Both squads finished third in the competition.

For the men's squad freshman Niklas Glenesk took first in the 1000-yard freestyle (9:50.36) and second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:45.08).

Sophomore Davin Harding also had a big day in the pool for the Colonials. Harding took second in the 200-yard butterfly (1:57.74) and third in the 100-yard butterfly (53.81). Harding and Glenesk also teamed up with Marshall Seedorff and Stephan Nelson for third in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:18.94). Seedorff and Harding also competed with Alex Etz and Paolo De Luca in the 200-yard medley relay for second with 1:39.13.

Junor Noelle Miesfeld secured first place in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:11.71, just a few seconds shy of her lifetime best of 2:08.70 in the event. Miesfeld earned points for GW in three events over the two-day competition.

Fellow junior Sarah Beggs finished second in the 100-yard butterfly at 1:00.38. Beggs also competed for the Colonials in the 200-yard medley relay (6th, 1:55.86), 100-yard backstroke (8th, 1:04.02), 200-yard backstroke (9th, 2:19.51) and 400-yard freestyle relay (4th, 3:54.38).

GW collected 27 top-five finishes spread out through the 38-event invitational.

The Colonials are next in action at Charles E. Smith Center Pool on Jan. 22 to take on the Howard Bison, at 6 p.m. The meet will honor the swim program's seniors.
