Freshman Swimmers Shine in Day 3 of A-10s for GW

BUFFALO, NY -- Freshman Niklas Glenesk was the highest scoring freshman swimmer for GW in the third day of the 2010 Atlantic 10 Swimming Championships at the Flickinger Aquatics Center. Glenesk touched in eighth in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:43.52, while fellow freshman swimmer Luke Quimby posted a time of 1:44.59, good for 13th in the event. Three-time A-10 Rookie Performer of the Week Alex Etz finished 10th in the 100-yard backstroke, his first individual event of the Conference meet. His time of 51.41 put him at No. 8 in all-time GW swimming program history in the 100-yard backstroke. For the women's team, senior captain Katrina Timlin and senior Jennifer Cohn finished back-to-back in the B Final of the 100-yard breaststroke, good for ninth and tenth respectively. Timlin beat her personal best by posting 1:05.83 while Cohn finished at 1:06.61. The seniors' times placed them both on the GW all-time times in the 100-yard breaststroke. TImlin and Cohn were back in the pool when they raced with sophomore Isabel Tawney and junior Sarah Beggs in the 400-yard medley relay, the second to last event of the night. The relay team finished ninth with a time of 4:00.19. Etz, along with Glenesk and senior Cascade Tuholske and junior Andrew Maguire, completed the night in the 400-yard medley relay for the Colonials, taking eighth place with a time of 3:29.32. The final day of the Championships begins Saturday morning with trials at 10:30 a.m. and finals at 6:30 p.m.
