Divers Underway at NCAA Zone Championships
Peter Nachtwey led Colonials on opening day
Nachtwey paced the Colonials on the opening day at Rutgers Aquatic Center with his 28th place finish on the 3-meter board. Coming off a pair of silver-medal performances at the A-10 Championships, the freshman from Ohio posted a score of 256.35.
Ortiz was 33rd out of 42 divers to begin his second NCAA Zones appearance with 232.40. The junior from New York improved on his showing last year in the event by two spots.
Tomczyk, a freshman from Pennsylvania, finished 37th in his debut at the meet with 218.55.
“I am very happy with their preparation and performance today,” head diving coach Anthony Crowder said. “Everyone stayed in the game mentally and held confidence throughout. This was a great first day for everyone and a great first NCAA Zone experience for the freshmen. I’m looking forward to the rest of the events here.”
The three-day meet continues Tuesday with all three Colonials competing on the 1-meter board. Nachtwey will also be in action Wednesday on platform. The top 18 finishers during the preliminary round in each event advance to finals.
