GW Freshman David Zenk Named A-10 Performer and Rookie of the Year

BUFFALO, NY - George Washington University freshman David Zenk (St. Louis, MO/St. Louis Country Day School) was named the conference's men's Most Outstanding Performer and Most Outstanding Rookie following the conclusion of the Atlantic 10 Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Championships Saturday night at the Flickinger Center on the campus of Erie Community College. Zenk took first place in two different events during The Championships, winning the 200-yard individual medley (1:51.68) Thursday and then the 100-yard backstroke (50.61 seconds) on Friday. Overall, the GW men's team concluded the 2005-06 season by placing seventh in the A-10 Championships while the women wrapped the year finishing eighth. St. Bonaventure began the final day of competition just 4.5 points behind first place Massachusetts in the men's division and overcame the Minutemen to win its first conference title since 1999, denying UMass its sixth consecutive crown. The final finishes and points of the men's teams were as follows: St. Bonaventure (701.5), UMass (692.5), Xavier (424), La Salle (390), Fordham (359), Duquesne (359), George Washington (284), St. Louis (200) and Rhode Island (167). The Richmond women won their conference-record fourth straight A-10 title, finishing 272 points in front of second place St. Bonaventure. The final finishes and points of the women's teams were as follows: Richmond (747), St. Bonaventure (475), University of Massachusetts (467), Duquesne (417), Xavier (380), St. Louis (322), Fordham (316), George Washington (226), La Salle (169) and Rhode Island (132).
