GW Men's Swimming Completes First Day of Local Quad-Meet

WASHINGTON - George Washington men's swimming wrapped the first day of a two-day quad meet with local opponents American, Catholic and Loyola at AU's Reeve's Aquatic Center on Friday.

The Colonials competed in their first individual events of the season after opening 2013-14 as a team at the Potomac Relays. Rookie Bogdan Balteanu and junior transfer Goran Koprivnjak paced the Colonials on the evening.

Balteanu opened the event with a first-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:57.02. Koprivnjak took home a close second, clocking in at 1:57.72 and freshman Matt McPherson followed in third in 1:59.93.

Sophomore Oliver Keegan finished second in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:46.77 and classmate Jordan Sharples earned third place with a time of 4:47.04. Freshman Liam Huffman finished in sixth in 4:52.60.

Koprivnjak finished seventh in the 50 free in 22.17 seconds and Balteanu followed in eighth in 22.24 seconds.



GW returns to the pool on Saturday with the first of two sessions set to begin at 12 p.m.
