Men's Swimming Completes Session One at Catholic

WASHINGTON, DC - The men's swimming & diving team competed in Session One of their Annual Invitational against local rivals American University and Catholic at the Cardinal's DuFour Center Natatorium on Friday night. The men were paced by junior David Zenk with his two victories. Freshman Konrad Kopczynski and sophomore Rick Rogers both recorded a pair of top five finishes on the night.
Zenk won both the 50 and 500-yard freestyle events in dominating fashion. The native of St. Louis, MO held the lead throughout in the 500-yard freestyle and went on to take the event in 4:44.09. Kopczynski took second in the event in 4:56.08 and fellow freshman Jim Forrest took fifth in 5:05.39. In the 50-yard freestyle, Zenk won the event by nearly a second in 21.42. Rogers took fourth in the event in 22.72.
The men's squad placed well in the 200-yard IM as well, sweeping places second through fifth. Junior Tom Pullen led the way touching the wall in 2:02.68. Following closely in third place was freshman Andrew Maguire at 2:03.42. Rogers took fourth in 2:04.42 and Kopczynski placed fifth in 2:05.92 despite winning his heat. Senior Drew Boudreau finished second to Kopczynski in their respective heat in 2:09.29.
The Colonials will compete in the Sessions 2 and 3 of the two-day Invite tomorrow at American's Reeves Aquatic Center. The early session will start at 10:00 am while the late session will commence at 3:00 pm.
