Complete Day 3 Results

FAIRFAX, VA- In the night session of the final day of the 2009 Patriot Invitational, junior Paola Leor took first place in the 100-yard freestyle, posting a time just shy of her GW record. Leor posted a time of 51.31, .21 hundredths of a second off her program record.

Junior Sarah Beggs, finishing 11th in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:08.49, broke her lifetime best of 2:11.13. Senior Emily Leik finished just behind Beggs at 13th with a time of 2:08.89.

Senior Katrina Timlin also got close to her personal best in the 200-yard breaststroke with the seventh best time in the event with 2:27.57, just .30 hundredths of a second shy. Fellow senior Jennifer Cohn also swam in the event taking 13th with a time of 2:30.33.

In relay action, the women's squad finished seventh of 14 in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:36.25 by Timlin, Leik, Beggs and Leor.

The men's squad had a strong showing also by the freshman in the final night's events. In the 200-yard backstroke saw Alex Etz finish 10th (1:55.96), Jim Coleman 15th (2:00.84) and Zach Peart 22nd (2:02.25). Etz's time was just .82 hundredths of a second from being in GW Swimming top times in the 200-yard backstroke.

 

 

Paolo De Luca and Andrew Maguire continue to cut time off their in-season best times in the 200-yard breaststroke. De Luca finished with a time of 2:12.96, shaving 3.35 seconds off his preliminary race time, while Maguire posted a time of 2:20.37.

In the men's 400-yard freestyle relay event, GW took eighth and 16th, respectively of 18 teams. The relay team made up of Marshall Seedorff, Etz, Niklas Glenesk, and Stephen Nelson finished with a time of 3:11.58, while the second team of Davin Harding, Stephan Franke, Coleman and Luke Quimby raced to a time of 3:18.25.

The Colonials are back in the pool on Saturday Dec. 5 to host Old Dominion University at Charles E. Smith Center Pool. This dual meet is also the GW Women's Athletics Thinks Pink Initiative event, to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research.
