NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – After recording two top finishes at the Rhode Island Invitational this weekend to open 2014 action, George Washington freshman Liam Huffman has been named the Atlantic 10 Men’s Swimming Rookie of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.
Huffman won an individual event and was part of a winning relay, in addition to securing four other top-five finishes, as he helped GW to a second-place finish at the annual invitational. He is the first Colonial to receive the conference’s Rookie of the Week nod since Garrett Cottingham in Oct. 2011.
The Riverside, Mo., product won the 1,000-yard freestyle in a season-best time of 9:49.56 and swam the second leg of the first-place finishing 400 free relay that clocked in at 3:11.09.
