Swimming & Diving Plays Host To Army on Senior Day

WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington University men's and women's swimming & diving teams will host Army, Friday, January 25, at Charles E. Smith Athletic Center. The diving portion of the meet will begin at 1:00 p.m. while swimming will begin at 3:00 p.m.

Additionally, five seniors will be appearing in the final home meet of their collegiate careers. These five seniors are Drew Boudreau, Mark DeSimone, Danny Johnson, Andrea Martin and Molly Moss.

The Colonials are coming off a sweep of crosstown rival Georgetown and were highlighted by eight victories by both the men's and women's teams. Freshmen Andrew Maguire (200-yard butterfly and breaststroke), Paola Leor (100 and 200-yard freestlye), Sarah Landry (1 and 3-meter diving) and Dan Thomann (1 and 3-meter diving) each captured two victories, as did junior David Zenk (400-yard IM and 500-yard freestyle). Freshman Konrad Kopczynski (100-yard freestyle), sophomores Emily Leik (200-yard backstroke) and Cissey Ye (1,000-yard freestyle) and junior Ariana Berdini (200-yard breaststroke) also won events.



Army's men are currently ranked in the mid-major poll at 14 and are led by Jake Mentele. Mentele won six events in two days against Bucknell and Lehigh including the 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard breaststroke twice, as well as the 200-yard IM and 400-yard medley relay. Diver Greg Sievers just recently set the Academy record in the 1 and 3-meter diving events. Both Sievers and Mentele received ECAC weekly honors for their efforts.

Lindsey Adao also recieved ECAC annals last week after breaking the Academy record in the 1-meter dive and setting a new personal-best in the 3-meter dive.

Following the meet with Army, the Colonials will travel to George Mason Saturday, Feb. 2 to take on the Patriots in their final tuneup before the Atlantic 10 Championships (Feb. 20-23 in Buffalo, NY).
