PHILADELPHIA, PA - Sophomore swimmer David Zenk has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Co-Performer of the Week for the second time this season, the league announced on Monday, Feb. 5.
Zenk, who also was tabbed A-10 Performer of the Week on Nov. 20, placed first in the 50-yard freestyle (21.62) and 100-yard backstroke (51.15) events on Feb. 3 in George Washington's 166-86 loss at Army. He also added a second-place showing in the 200-yard individual medley (1:54.81).
The St. Louis native holds the top times in the conference in three events this season: 200-yard backstroke (1:47.43), and both 200-yard (1:51.95) and 400-yard (3:57.73) Individual Medleys. He posted all of these top times at the Patriot Invitational in November while his 3:57.73 in the 400-yard IM set a meet record.
All three of these times also are in the top 100 of the nation while his 200-yard backstroke time is in the top 40 and 400-yard IM is in the top 50 nationwide.
Zenk will look to defend his 2006 Atlantic 10 Swimmer of the Year title at this year's Atlantic 10 Championships at the Flickinger Athletic Center in Buffalo, NY, from Feb. 21-24. Zenk captured gold in the 200-yard IM and 100-yard backstroke events at last year's conference championships.
