Colonial of the Week Presented by Capgemini: Max Forstenhaeusler & Emily Zhang

Max Forstenhaeusler and Emily Zhang headlined an impressive performance for George Washington swimming and diving last week at the CSCAA National Invitational Championship in Annapolis, Md.

Forstenhaeusler earned four medals and contributed to a pair of record-breaking relays in helping the men earn a runner-up finish in the national postseason meet behind host Navy. The sophomore from Germany won gold and set program records with the Colonials in the 800-yard freestyle relay (6:31.75) and 400-yard freestyle relay (1:21.54). The 800 free team broke the meet mark, as well.

Individually, Forstenhaeusler grabbed silver in the 100-yard freestyle, setting a new career best in the process (44.37 seconds). He also scored in the 200-yard individual medley (sixth) and 100-yard butterfly (12th).

Zhang won three medals, highlighted by a silver-medal effort in the 100-yard individual medley (55.94). The junior from Maryland also picked up bronze in the 200-yard individual medley (2:00.56) and 800-yard freestyle relay (7:18.98). She set a program record in the 400-yard individual medley (4:15.78) en route to a fifth-place finish, as well.

Those efforts helped the GW women finish eighth in the team standings out of 31 squads in their season-ending meet.
