NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – After posting two first-place finishes in the George Washington men’s swimming meet at UMBC on Saturday, freshman Garrett Cottingham was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week on Monday.

In just his fourth meet at GW, the Atlanta, Ga., native earned his first collegiate victory when he swam a time of 1:00.02 in the 100-yard breaststroke in the Colonials’ 138-112 loss to the Retrievers.

Cottingham picked up his second first-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:10.81. His winning time was seven seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.

GW returns to the pool on Saturday, Nov. 5 with a dual meet at Drexel. Action is set for 1 p.m.
