Torrie Browning joined the George Washington men's and women's tennis programs as Associate Head Coach prior to the 2014-15 season.
Coach Browning, who was a four-time Missouri Valley All-Conference selection at Wichita State, comes to GW after spending five years with the Norfolk State men's and women's tennis programs in Norfolk, Virginia.
Coach Browning joins the Colonials squads after serving as assistant coach for the Norfolk State men's and women's tennis programs from 2009-2013, where she was promoted to associate head coach of the women's team for the 2013-14 season. Throughout her time at Norfolk State, Coach Browning helped the men's team to its first appearance in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championship finals and secure 14 wins, the most in program history, during the 2014 season. She coached the 2014 MEAC Player of the Year as well as the 2012 and 2013 MEAC Rookies of the Year, and also helped guide the Spartans to their first ever MEAC Southern Division Conference title in 2013. With the women's program, Coach Browning saw the first player earn a spot on an all-conference team since 2009 and led the squad to its first MEAC Championship appearance in three seasons.
Prior to her stint at Norfolk State, Coach Browning was a standout four-year letterwinner and a four-time MVC All-Conference honoree at Wichita State. Throughout her collegiate career, Coach Browning compiled an overall singles record of 100-54, ranking fourth all-time in singles victories at the university, and a doubles mark of 57-41. The two-year captain posted winning singles records in every season and had 20-plus victories during her freshman (24), sophomore (22) and senior (27) campaigns.
Coach Browning helped the Shockers achieve their highest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) ranking in school history when they reached No. 16 during the spring of 2007, and guided the team to three NCAA Team Championship appearances in 2006, 2007 and 2009.
Excelling off the court, Coach Browning was named an ITA Scholar Athlete and earned a spot on the MVC Scholar Athlete First Team as a senior. She was awarded the ITA Central Region Arthur Ashe Jr. Award for Sportsmanship and Leadership and represented Wichita State at the NCAA Leadership Conference. Coach Browning was also a member of the Shockers' Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and served as the representative to the MVC SAAC.
A native of Tucson, Arizona, Coach Brown graduated cum laude with a bachelor's degree in integrated marketing communications and a minor in sociology.
