Men's Tennis Drops Spring Opener To Richmond, 4-3

WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington University's men's tennis team was edged, 4-3, by Richmond in the opening match of the spring season on Sunday, January 18. The contest came down to the last match, but senior Brett Warner (Vienna, VA/James Madison) was unable to overtake Matt Stillwagon at number six singles. GW managed one victory in doubles play from junior Matt Treadgold (Glenmont, NY/Bethlehem Central) and freshman Daniel Balke (Portage, MI/Portage Northern), but Richmond snagged the doubles point with two victories. The Colonials got singles victories from senior Matt Hane (Walterboro, SC/Porter-Gaud School) at number one, Treadgold at number two and sophomore Will Timmons (Greenville, SC/Christ Church Episcopal) at number five, but were unable to secure the decisive fourth point. The team hits the courts again when they travel to Newport News, VA on Friday, January 23 to take on Old Dominion.
