NORFOLK, VA - The George Washington University men's tennis team opened their 2008 spring schedule with two matches on Sunday in Norfolk, VA. The Colonials defeated #63 College of Charleston, 5-2, but then lost later in the day to #38 Old Dominion, 6-1.

George Washington's record in dual matches in the 2007-08 season is now 2-3.

In Sunday's first match, GW took the doubles point, winning all three individual matches. This also marked the season debut of spring freshman Yan Levinski, who teamed with Erik Hannah in the No. 2 doubles position to win, 8-5. Levinski was also victorious in his first ever GW singles match, winning 6-1, 6-0. Other wins in the singles portion of the competition came from No. 1 player Mustafa Gencsoy, who ran his season record to 11-4 (4-1 in dual matches), as well as Erik Hannah and Ryan Schlachter, playing from the No. 4 and No. 5 positions, respectively.

Later in the day, Old Dominion, ranked 38th nationally, proved too much for GW, as the Monarchs cruised to a 6-1 victory. The lone Colonial point came from Yan Levinski, who again won his match from the No. 2 slot. Gencsoy and Ryan Hunter also paired up to record a win in the third doubles position.

George Washington will host their first match of the 2007-08 season this Friday, Jan. 25, when they welcome James Madison, at 1:00 p.m.
