Men's Tennis Defeated in Season Opener

Jan. 23, 2007

Results

NORFOLK, VA -The George Washington Men's Tennis team opened their season on Friday against #54 Old Dominion in competitive fashion. Traditionally, the Monarchs prevails 7-0, and although the score remained the same, GW's performance proved worthy for their opponents.

Number two player Sam Salyer served twice for the first set against the #18 ranked player in the country before falling 7-6, 6-3. Brandon Harris, the third seed, was tied at 5-5 in the second, before falling 6-2, 7-5. Freshman Maxx Wattenberg had opportunities to take a number of leads throughout the match, but fell short 6-1, 6-4. The third-seeded doubles team of Elliott Daniels and Mark Doumba challenged ODU in their 6-8 defeat.

Despite the disappointing loss, the team feels that they are headed in the right direction as they continue to aim for this year's Atlantic 10 Championship. George Washington plays host to James Madison University this Friday, Jan. 26, at 1:00 pm, at the Regency Sport & Health Club in McLean, VA.
