GW Men's Tennis Gets Back on Track with 5-2 Win Over Penn

In No. 1 singles action, freshman Francisco Dias – the reigning Atlantic 10 Rookie Performer of the Week – defeated Penn’s Ivan Turudic, 6-0, 1-6, 6-3. Senior Ugur Atalay made his spring debut with a 7-6 (7-2), 2-6, 6-2 win over Nikola Kocovic in the No. 2 singles spot. In the No. 3 spot, junior Alexander van Gils won a tiebreaker match over Phil Law by scores of 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (10-8), and sophomore Ulrik Thomsen took down Jeremy Court, 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 in No. 4 singles action. Sophomore Victor Svensson dropped a close 7-5, 6-3 match to Jason Lin in the No. 5 spot, and junior Leonardo Lapentti fell 7-5, 6-4 to Eugen Brazdil at No. 6. Van Gils and Thomsen paired up in No. 1 doubles play and earned an 8-6 victory over Turudic and Zach Katz. Atalay and Dias, playing together for the first time since the 2011 fall season, defeated Kocovic and Rob Wong, 8-5, in the No. 2 spot. Lapentti and Svensson went up 6-4 over Court and Law, but once the Colonials sealed the match victory, No. 3 doubles play went unfinished.
