Men's Tennis Downs Navy, 5-2

MONTCLAIR, VA - Led by victories in all but one singles match, the George Washington University men's tennis team handed Navy its first loss of the season, 5-2, Saturday afternoon at the Montclair Country Club. After falling behind 1-0 following doubles play, the Colonials rallied in singles led by senior Jake Jopling's (Wexford, PA) fourth consecutive triumph at No. 1.
Navy (3-1) took a 1-0 advantage in doubles play winning at the No. 1 and 2 positions, respectively. Senior Matt Treadgold (Glenmont, NY) made his first dual-match appearance in the Colonials' lineup since their contest against Georgetown, and along with freshman Sam Salyer (Minneapolis, MN), the pair posted an 8-1 win over Stanley Kahl and Haley Dodson at No. 3.
In singles play, all five of GW's victories came in straight sets. Jopling closed out Brandon Carter at the top spot, 6-4, 6-3, while freshman Mustafa Genscoy (Istanbul, Turkey) stopped Kahl, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 2 to improve to 3-1 on the season. Freshman Elliott Daniels (Hilton Head, SC) posted a strong 6-0, 6-4 win over Adrian Lai at No. 4, and junior Will Timmons (Greenville, SC) ran his record to 4-1 at the No. 5 spot with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over John Hayashi. After winning by default last time out on Friday, Salyer claimed his third win with a 6-2, 6-4 triumph against Kyle Jones at No. 6.
GW (4-2) is back on the courts when they travel to College Park, MD, on Friday, Feb. 11, to face ACC member Maryland at 2:30 p.m.GW 5, Navy 2
