Navy Defeats Men's Tennis, 5-2

ANNAPOLIS, MD - The George Washington University men's tennis team fell to Navy, 5-2, on Saturday, Feb. 4 in non-conference action from the Severn Valley Racquet Club. Sophomores Sam Salyer (Minneapolis, MN) and Mark Doumba (Bradenton, FL) each recorded singles victories to lead the Colonials. After dropping a tough match at No. 2 doubles with junior Daniel Balke (Portage, MI), Salyer bounced back in singles play defeating Jason Hill, 7-5, 7-6 (7-5). Doumba had a strong showing as well after rallying from a 6-2 first set loss to win two consecutive tiebreakers, 7-6, 1-0 (10-5). Sophomore Mustafa Gencsoy (Istanbul, Turkey) dropped a tough match at first singles to Nate Helms after winning the second set, 6-2, to even the match, but Helms won the third-set tiebreak 10-7. The Colonials return to action when they host A-10 member Richmond on Friday, Feb. 10, at 3 p.m. at the Regency Sport & Health Club in McLean, VA. Doubles #1 Helms/Carter def.
