GW Men's Tennis Drops 5-2 Decision to Columbia
Feb. 10, 2012 The Lions (3-0) jumped ahead quickly, winning two-of-three doubles matches. Notching the win for the Colonials (3-5) was the No. 2 duo of senior Ugur Atalay and freshman Francisco Dias, who defeated John Yetimoglu and Nathaniel Gery in a super-tiebreaker, 9-8 (10-2). In the No. 1 doubles spot junior Alexander van Gils and sophomore Ulrik Thomsen fell to Ashok Narayana and Max Schnur, 8-2, and junior Leonardo Lapentti and sophomore Viktor Svensson dropped an 8-4 decision to Winston Lin and Bert Vancura in the No. 3 spot. Dias went on to win his No. 1 singles match in convincing fashion, downing Lin by 6-0, 6-4 sets. Lapentti defeated Schnur in the No. 6 spot, 6-7, 6-3, 1-0 (10-8) to give GW its final victory of the day. Atalay dropped a 7-5, 7-5 decision to Gery in the No. 2 match and van Gils fell to Narayana, 7-5, 6-3 at No. 3. In the No. 4 spot Vancura defeated Svensson, 6-2, 6-4 and senior Richard Blumenfeld fell to Yetimoglu, 7-5, 6-1.
