Feb. 14, 2003
WASHINGTON, DC - The GW Men's Tennis team edged Navy 4-3 and ended their three match winning streak on Friday, February 14 at the Montclair Tennis Club by winning three singles matches and taking the doubles point. Sophomores Matt Treadgold (Glenmont, NY/Bethlehem Central) and Jake Jopling (Wexford, PA/North Allegheny) each won their singles match and teamed to win their doubles match to help the Colonials even their record at 3-3.
Junior Matt Hane (Walterboro, SC/Porter-Gaud School) scored the third point in singles by defeating Navy's number one Cameron Lickle, 6-3, 6-3. Navy was able to sweep the matches at four, five and six, but it didn't matter thanks to junior Brett Warner (Vienna, VA/James Madison) and freshman Tim Rogers (Newtown, PA/Council Rock) who pulled out a tough match, 9-7, to give the Colonials the doubles point and solidify the 4-3 victory.
The Colonials hope to fight through the expected weather to take on conference nemesis, Richmond, on Saturday, February 15 at 6:00 p.m. in Richmond, VA.
