PITTSBURGH, PA- George Washington men's tennis battled back after a slow start in doubles action to defeat Xavier 4-3 at a neutral site on Saturday. The Colonials (3-4) and Musketeers (4-6) were selected by Atlantic 10 Conference coaches as the preseason favorites to win the 2011 Atlantic 10 Men's Tennis Championship in April.

Junior Ugur Atalay fought off two match points against Xavier's Bobby Deye at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 2-6, 7-6(5), to secure the 4-3 victory for the Colonials.

Xavier took a quick 1-0 lead after securing the doubles point, winning the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles matches. GW's Christopher Kushma and Alexander van Gils won, 8-4, over Jimmy Roebker and Deye.

The Colonials stepped up their game in singles action. Senior captains Kushma and Erik Hannah led by example and won their matches in straight sets. Kushma defeated Brandon MacDonald (6-1,6-3), while Hannah defeated Patrick Bandy (6-2, 6-4).

Senior Yan Levinski defeated Roebker at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-3.

The Colonials continue A-10 play on Sunday, when they take on Duquesne at 10:00 a.m. at The Club Sport and Health in Monroeville, PA.
