Men's Tennis Falls to Rutgers, 4-0

PISCATAWAY, NJ - The Colonials men's tennis team lost, 4-0, to Rutgers Sunday at Piscataway, NJ. With the loss, GW evened its record at 6-6 on the year while Rutgers improved to 1-1. The match was concluded immediately after the fourth point was won. At No. 1 singles, Rutgers' senior captain Akshay Jagdale defeated sophomore Matt Hane (Walterboro, SC/Porter-Gaud School) in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. At No. 2 singles, the Scarlet Knights' Greg Schweitzer notched his first win of the spring, defeating freshman Jake Jopling (Wexford, PA/North Allegheny) in two sets, 6-2, 6-4. At No. 3 singles, Rutgers' Maartin Vissers defeated Kevin Wright (Seminole, FL/Thomas Howard Academy), 6-3, 6-2. The Scarlet Knights also won all three doubles matches. Jagdale and Schweitzer won the No. 1 doubles match, knocking off Hane and Jopling, 8-4, while Vissers and junior Kevin Bielen defeated Kinzie Wright (Seminole, FL/Thomas Howard Academy) and junior Mike Melen (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair), 8-4. In the No. 3 doubles match, senior Chris Kushner and Brook Deming topped the team of freshman Chris Moulton (Portland, ME/Brickhouse) and sophomore Brett Warner (Vienna, VA/James Madison), 8-1. The Colonials were without freshman Matt Treadgold (Glenmont, NY/Bethlehem Central) who missed the match due to injury. The Colonials return home for a Friday, Mar. 1 match against Towson beginning at 4:00 p.m. at the GW-Mount Vernon Tennis Facility.
