Feb. 28, 2005
PISCATAWAY, NJ & PRINCETON, NJ - The George Washington University men's tennis team dropped both of its non-conference road matches this past weekend, falling to Rutgers, 5-2, on Friday, Feb. 25, at the East Brunswick Racquet Club and Princeton, 7-0, on Saturday, Feb. 26, at the Jadwin Gym tennis courts.
Against the Scarlet Knights, senior Matt Treadgold (Glenmont, NY) and freshman Mustafa Gencsoy (Istanbul, Turkey) notched the Colonials lone win in doubles play at the top spot. The pair topped Tyler Deming and Gordi Milchutsky, 8-3. In singles play, Gencsoy earned one of GW's two points with a straight-set 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 2 over Milchutsky, while senior Jake Jopling (Wexford, PA) secured the Colonials' other point with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 3 over Matthew Facwett.
Princeton proved to be too much for GW on Saturday as the Tigers earned a 7-0 victory. Gencsoy continued his solid play by taking the opening set, 6-3, against Sratha Saengsuwarn at No. 2, but Saengsuwarn rallied for the triumph after winning the second-set (6-2) and third-set tiebreaker. The Tigers swept all three doubles matches and the remaining five singles contests in straight sets.
GW (5-6) is back on the courts when it hosts Atlantic 10 foe Xavier on Friday, March 4, at 12:30 p.m. at the Montclair Country Club in Montclair, VA.Rutgers 5, GW 2
