Men's Tennis Sweeps Second Match of the Weekend Versus UMBC

WASHINGTON, DC - The GW Men's Tennis team swept its second match of the weekend beating Maryland-Baltimore County 7-0 on Saturday, March 1 at the Montclair Tennis Club. The Colonials win put them over .500 on the season at 5-4. Junior Matt Hane (Walterboro, SC/Porter-Gaud School) had no problems at number one singles in defeating Josef Novotny, the number eight ranked player in the east region, 6-2, 6-4. Sophomore Matt Treadgold (Glenmont, NY/Bethlehem Central) and freshman Marius Weigert (Hamburg, Germany/ESI International Academy) added straight set victories for the Colonials at number two and four singles. Freshman Jason Sucoll (Simsbury, CT/Simsbury) broke into the win column by winning a second set tiebreaker at number six singles. In doubles, teams of Hane and Weigert, Treadgold and sophomore Jake Jopling (Wexford, PA/North Allegheny), and senior Brett Warner (Vienna, VA/James Madison) and freshman Tim Rogers (Newtown, PA/Council Rock) all posted strong victories to take the doubles point. The Colonials will look to make it three in a row on Friday, March 7 when they take on Howard at 12:00 p.m.
