GREENVILLE, N.C. – George Washington men’s tennis completed its weekend sweep in North Carolina with a 4-1 victory at East Carolina on Sunday afternoon at the River Birch Tennis Center for the squad’s third win in as many days.

The Colonials improve to 5-4 overall with its third consecutive victory while the Pirates fall to 10-4. GW opened the match with a 1-0 lead after securing the doubles point and claimed the Nos. 2, 4 and 5 singles matches to hand ECU its first home loss of the season.

The No. 2 doubles team of senior Nikita Fomin and sophomore Danil Zelenkov picked up a tiebreaker win over Damien Brenard and Fredric Lehfeldt, 8-7 (6), and the No. 3 tandem of seniors Viktor Svensson and Ulrik Thomsen earned an 8-4 decision over Miles Holvoet and Patriek Wolterbeek.

Fomin then rolled to a 6-2, 6-2, No. 2 singles win over Nicolas Soriano and rookie Julius Tverijonas topped Fredric Lehfeldt, 6-3, 6-2, in the No. 4 match. Thomsen clinched the win for the Colonials at the No. 5 spot with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Brenard.


 

 

GW returns to action on Saturday, March 8 at Navy. First serve in Annapolis, Md., is scheduled for 12 p.m.
