No. 50 GW Men's Tennis Sweeps A-10 Foe Fordham, 7-0
Colonials Hold Conference Opponents Scoreless in Back-to-Back Matches

PORT CHESTER, N.Y. – The No. 50 George Washington men’s tennis team blanked Fordham, 7-0, on Sunday afternoon for its second scoreless sweep of an Atlantic 10 opponent in as many days.
After opening A-10 action by sweeping Temple on Saturday, the Colonials (7-4, 2-0 A-10) repeated their efforts against the Rams (0-5, 0-2 A-10) on Sunday for an unblemished conference start.
GW claimed the doubles point and won five of its six singles matches in straight sets to cruise to victory over Fordham and wrap its three-match weekend.
The No. 2 doubles team of junior Nikita Fomin and freshman Danil Zelenkov held Fordham’s Alex DeRienzo and Jan Krouham to just one game en route to an 8-1 win. Sophomore Francisco Dias and senior Leonardo Lapentti earned an 8-3 decision over J.J. Tauil and Peder Gram in the No. 3 match.
In singles play, Fomin defeated Srikar Alla, 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 1 spot and Dias – the No. 114 player in the country – downed Gram by set scores of 6-1, 6-2. In third-flight action Zelenkov earned a 6-3, 2-6, 6-1 decision over Tauil and senior Alexander van Gils beat DeRienzo, 7-5, 6-2 in the No. 4 match.
At the No. 5 spot Lapentti defeated Max Peara, 7-5, 6-2, and junior Viktor Svensson posted a 6-2, 6-2, No. 6 victory over Krouham.
GW heads to California for spring break from March 8-16 where the Colonials will compete at the USTA Calabasas Futures event as well as dual matches with UC Santa Barbara and UC Irvine.
