No. 49 GW Men's Tennis Falls to UC Santa Barbara, 6-1
Colonials Look to Bounce Back at UC Irvine on Saturday

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The No. 49 George Washington men’s tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to UC Santa Barbara on Thursday at the Recreation Center Courts.
The Colonials (7-5), who earned a No. 49 national ranking this week by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, continue their West Coast swing as they travel to take on UC Irvine on Saturday for their final Spring Break competition.
GW’s lone point of the match came from junior Ulrik Thomsen as he downed Sasha Gryaznov, 6-2, 6-4, in the No. 5 singles spot.
In first-flight singles play, junior Nikita Fomin won the first set over Mbonisi Ndimande, 6-1, but dropped the second, 6-4, before he retired. Sophomore Francisco Dias fell to Benjamin Recknagel, 7-6, 7-5, at the No. 2 spot, and freshman Danil Zelenkov dropped a three-set decision to Axel Bouillin in the No. 3 match by scores of 4-6, 6-3, 6-3. Senior Alexander van Gils fell to Ziad Sultan, 7-5, 7-5, in the fourth-flight and Andrew Riminton defeated junior Viktor Svensson in the No. 6 match, 6-3, 6-3.
The No. 3 doubles pair of Dias and senior Leonardo Lapentti earned a 9-7 victory over Riminton and Miles Seemann, but the Colonials were not able to claim the doubles point. The No. 1 team of Thomsen and van Gils fell to Ndimande and Sultan, 8-5, while the No. 2 duo of Fomin and Zelenkov fell to Bouillin and Recknagel, 8-5.
Action between GW and UC Irvine at the Anteater Tennis Stadium is slated for Saturday, March 16 at 1:30 p.m. PT (4:30 p.m. ET).
