No. 49 GW Men's Tennis Closes Spring Break Trip with 4-3 Win over UC Irvine
Colonials to Face Consecutive Conference Opponents March 23-24

IRVINE, Calif. - The No. 49 George Washington men's tennis team closed its Spring Break trip to California with a 4-3 victory over UC Irvine on Saturday at Anteater Tennis Stadium.
After dropping the doubles point to the Anteaters (3-14), the Colonials (8-5) fought back to claim victories at the Nos. 1, 2, 5 and 6 singles slots to earn the win.
"This trip was a great test for our team and we rallied together for the win," head coach Greg Munoz said. "The energy from the entire line up came together for the win and I am very proud of everyone. This was a great way to end our Spring Break trip."
In No. 1 singles play, junior Nikita Fomin cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 win over UC Irvine's Ryan Cheung. Freshman Danil Zelenkov earned a three-set thriller over Jacob Jung in the No. 2 match by scores of 6-7, 7-5, 6-4.
Junior Ulrik Thomsen downed Jonathan Poon, 6-4, 7-5, in the No. 5 spot, and classmate Viktor Svensson earned a 7-5, 7-5, sixth-flight victory over Shuhei Shibahara.
The No. 3 duo of sophomore Francisco Dias and senior Leonardo Lapentti posted the lone doubles win for the Buff and Blue as the pair defeated Jacob Jung and Shuhei Shibahara, 8-5.
GW looks to remain undefeated in Atlantic 10 play when the squad travels to Richmond, Va., next weekend for consecutive matches against Richmond and conference newcomer and national powerhouse, No. 26 VCU. Action between the Colonials and the Spiders is set for Saturday, March 23 at 2 p.m., followed by the match against the Rams on Sunday, March 24 at 1 p.m.
