FLUSHING, NY - The George Washington men's tennis team battled strong winds to work together for the, 4-3, win over No. 70 St. John's on Saturday to improve to 8-6 on the season.

GW No. 1 doubles duo Ugur Atalay and Erik Hannah had a 7-4 lead on their St. John's opponents, but fell 9-7 to drop the point. The Colonials were able to pick up wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches to go up 1-0 on the Red Storm.

In singles action, Hannah won quickly at the No. 3 match, 6-2, 7-5, to keep the GW momentum going. Christopher Kushma battled back after dropping the first set at the No. 2 match, 6-2, to tie the second set at 5-5, but fell 7-5 to relinquish the point to his SJU opponent.

Yan Levinski picked up an important point with a 1-6, 6-3, 6-4, win at the No. 1 match, while Viktor Svensson dropped his first No. 6 singles match of the season, 6-2, 7-5.

Alexander van Gils secured the match for the Colonials at the No. 5 singles match. van Gils fell in the first set, 3-6, but was able to outlast his Red Storm opponent to take the match 7-5, 6-3.

Once the Colonials secured the 4-3 victory over the Red Storm, freshman Ulrik Thomsen retired his No. 4 singles match, 7-5, 2-6.

The Colonials head to Annapolis, MD to take on the Navy Midshipmen on Wednesday, March 23. Matches are set to start at 2:30 pm on the USNA outdoor courts.
