GW Men's Tennis Sweeps Morgan State, 7-0, in Outdoor Home Opener

WASHINGTON - The No. 54 George Washington men's tennis team opened outdoor action at the GW Tennis Center on Saturday with a 7-0 sweep of Morgan State.

The Colonials won the doubles point over the Bears to open the match then rolled to consecutive victories in singles play.

The No. 57 duo of sophomore Francisco Dias and freshman Julius Tverijonas topped Evan Ward and Duk Young-Park, 8-4, in the No. 1 match, and senior Nikita Fomin and sophomore Danil Zelenkov defeated Dmitriy Borodkin and Jannick Tash, 8-3, at the No. 2 spot to extend their win streak to four matches. In the No. 3 slot, seniors Viktor Svensson and Ulrik Thomsen defeated Joshua Abraham and Ty Abraham, 8-6.

Dias defeated Young-Park, 6-4, 6-3, in No. 1 singles and Fomin downed Ward, 6-2, 6-1, at the No. 2 spot. Zelenkov won his fourth straight match with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Ty Abraham in the third flight, and Tverijonas defeated Joshua Abraham in the No. 4 match, 6-1, 6-0. Thomsen took care of Tash, 6-1, 6-1, at the No. 5 spot and Svensson downed Borodkin, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 6.

GW travels to Baltimore on Sunday for a 1 p.m. match at UMBC.
