Men's Tennis Defeats Longwood, 4-3
March 25, 2011 LONGWOOD, VA- The George Washington men's tennis team secured the pivotal doubles point against Longwood on Friday, on the way to winning 4-3 over the Lancers. The Colonials battled in tough doubles matches against the Lancers. Ugur Atalay and Erik Hannah won 8-5 at No. 1 doubles, while Christopher Kushma and Alexander van Gils won 8-2. New doubles pair of Richard Blumenfeld and Ulrik Thomsen fell in a tight No. 3 match 8-7 (5). The Lancers bounced back to take No. 1-3 singles matches from the Colonials. Hannah took care of his Lancer opponent in straight sets at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-3, for his fourth straight singles victory. Van Gils bounced back to win in three sets, 2-6, 6-0, 6-4, in the No. 5 singles match. Blumenfeld won in straight sets at No. 6 singles with the match tied 3-3, winning the decisive match for the GW victory. The Colonials next take on Radford on Saturday, March 26 with matches starting at 10:00 am, before taking on Tennessee Tech on Sunday, March 27, at Radford starting at 10:00 am.
