WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington men's tennis completed their 2007-08 regular season over the weekend with a trio of matches, all losses, snapping their four-match winning streak. On Friday, GW lost at home to Georgetown, 4-3. Radford, in a tie at No. 75 in the country, downed GW on Saturday, 4-1, and then on Sunday, the Colonials fell at UMBC, 5-2.

The three losses dropped GW's overall record to 12-9 for the 2007-08 regular season. The Colonials finished 7-1 in Atlantic 10 Conference play.

In Friday's match, played at the Regency Sport & Health Club, in McLean, VA, Georgetown took the doubles point with wins in two of the three matches. GW's win came in the No. 2 flight, when the team of Ryan Schlachter and Erik Hannah defeated Kevin Walsh and David Tillem, 9-8 (2-0). In the singles portion of the match, the two teama split the six matches, which gave the win to the Hoyas, as they had claimed the earlier doubles point. The Colonials earned wins from Yan Levinski in the No. 2 position (6-3, 6-4), Erik Hannah in the No. 4 spot (6-3, 4-6, 7-5) and Ryan Schlachter from the 5th slot (6-4, 2-6, 7-5).

Radford, ranked 75th in the country, made quick work of GW, winning 4-1, as the match was halted once they had earned the deciding point. The Highlanders took the first two doubles matches for the doubles point, leaving the 3rd flight unfinished. Then, in singles play, Radford captured three of the matches. Chris Kushma earned the lone point for GW, winning 6-2, 6-0 from the No. 6 position. The other two matches were left unfinished.

On Sunday, GW lost their third straight match, a 5-2 defeat coming at the rackets of UMBC. The Retrievers swept the doubles portion of the match to take an early 1-0 lead. GW managed just two wins in the singles play as UMBC took the other four points for the victory. The Colonials got their two victories from Mustafa Gencsoy in the No. 1 position (6-0, 4-6, 6-3) and Sam Salyer in the 3rd flight (6-0, 6-4).

"We had some very nice individual success this weekend, just not at the same time," said Head Coach Greg Munoz. "We understand that we win as a team and we lose as a team. I think our players were trying to find themselves this weekend, and for the most part, they did. Unfortunately, it just took three losses to do so."

GW finished the regular season with four players recording at least 14 individual wins: senior Mustafa Gencsoy (21-5 overall), freshman Erik Hannah (15-8), senior Sam Salyer (15-12) and freshman Yan Levinski (14-3). Combined, the team went 91-71 in singles play, including 35-10 (.778) in A-10 action.

The team of Mustafa Gencsoy and sophomore Ryan Hunter led the way in doubles, finishing with a 9-2 overall mark, 3-1 in the A-10.

George Washington travels to the Atlantic 10 Championship in Monroeville, PA, beginning Friday, April 4. Seeding is set to be announced today.
