Men's Tennis Downs La Salle, 7-0

WASHINGTON, DC - The Colonials men's tennis team breezed past La Salle, 7-0, Saturday at GW's Mount Vernon Tennis Facility. GW improved to 12-6 in the spring while La Salle dropped to 1-2. Freshman Jake Jopling (Wexford, PA/North Allegheny) and junior Mike Melen (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) each won their singles matches, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2 and No. 6, respectively. While every Colonial won their singles match, only sophomores Brett Warner (Vienna, VA/James Madison) at No. 5 and Matt Hane (Walterboro, SC/Porter-Gaud School) at No. 1 were challenged. Warner needed a seventh game in his first set against La Salle's Ron Gargullo before winning 7-5, 6-4. Hane defeated the Explorers' Karim Rahimtoola, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1. Hane teamed with senior captain Kinzie Wright (Seminole, FL/Thomas Howard Academy) to win, 8-2, at No. 1 doubles. The Colonials were without their No. 2 singles player, freshman Matt Treadgold (Glenmont, NY/Bethlehem Central) who is sidelined with a back injury. Next up for the Colonials is a match at Navy Sunday, March 31 beginning at 2:00 p.m.
