WILMINGTON, N.C. - Senior Julius Tverijonas clinched a tight, 4-3, victory for the George Washington men's tennis team on Sunday afternoon at UNC-Wilmington.

The Colonials (13-5) snapped UNCW's three-match win streak and extended their own streak to four-consecutive triumphs.

"The Seahawks are a very solid team and having defeated VCU yesterday, they had a lot of confidence coming in," said first-year head coach David Macpherson. "Our boys showed a lot of resolve and composure today for a triumphant trip to Wilmington."

Junior Chris Reynolds and senior Fernando Sala paired to claim a doubles victory at No. 3 before Tverijonas and junior Chris Fletcher clinched the early point at the top position.

Reynolds extended GW's lead with a straight-set victory at No. 3, but UNCW came within one with a No. 4 win.

The Seahawks tied the match after taking the sixth-flight bout, but freshman Dennis Afanasev regained the edge for the Colonials with his comeback three-set triumph in the No. 5 slot.

UNCW again knotted the match, this time claiming the No. 2 contest to put all eyes at court one with the score tied at 3-3.

Tverijonas clinched the victory for GW with his three-set battle, ultimately claiming the top position and giving the Colonials a 4-3 victory.

The Colonials open their outdoor home season on Friday, hosting George Mason at the GW Tennis Center on Friday before Richmond visits the District on Saturday.
