Men's Tennis Falls 4-3 to Binghamton on Senior Day
April 3, 2011 WASHINGTON, DC -- George Washington men's tennis ran into a tough Binghamton team on Sunday, April 3 at the Mount Vernon Tennis Center, falling 4-3 to the Bearcats. GW falls to 12-8 on the season, while Binghamton improves to 5-13. "Last year, we lost 7-0 so we did not underestimate them," said head coach Greg Munoz. "Unfortunately, we did not play our best tennis today. We were flat from the start and we couldn't bounce back from dropping the doubles point." Freshmen doubles duo Ulrik Thomsen and Viktor Svensson won at the No. 3 match, 8-5, but the Colonials surrendered the pivotal doubles point to the Bearcats, when the squad dropped the No. 1 and No. 1 doubles matches. Ugur Atalay fell in a tough No. 1 singles match to No. 101 Sven Vlograven, 6-4, 6-3, as did Yan Levinski in the No. 2 match, 7-5, 6-4. The Colonials picked up wins from co-captain Christopher Kushma at the No. 3 singles match, 6-3, 6-4, over Gilbert Wong, and Thomsen at the No. 4 match, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 over Alexandre Haggai. Alexander van Gils picked up the third GW's singles point at the No. 6 match, defeating Ruben Devos 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. Ruben Haggai defeated Erik Hannah at the No. 5 match to seal the Binghamton 4-3 victory. GW goes on the road this Saturday and Sunday to wrap up the 2011 regular season. On Saturday, the Colonials will head to DC-rival Georgetown for an 11:00 am match time. GW will head to Harrisonburg, VA on Sunday to take on James Madison at 1:00 pm. The 2011 Atlantic 10 Men's Tennis Championships have been set for Thursday-Saturday, April 14-16 in St. Louis, MO.
