No. 68 GW Men's Tennis Downs St. John's, 5-2, in Home Finale

WASHINGTON – The No. 68 George Washington men’s tennis team wrapped its final home match of the season with a convincing 5-2 win over St. John’s on Saturday afternoon at the GW Tennis Center on the Mount Vernon Campus.
The Buff and Blue opened the contest with a 1-0 lead after winning the doubles point at the Nos. 1 and 3 positions. The No. 80 team in the nation - sophomore Francisco Dias and Lapentti - downed St. John’s’ Hugo Morth and Mark Mozer, 8-2, followed by an 8-6 No. 1 doubles victory from junior Ulrik Thomsen and van Gils over Mike Lampa and Valentin Mihai.
In singles action, junior Nikita Fomin defeated the Red Storm’s Vasko Mladenov, 7-6, 6-1, and Dias rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Mihai at the No. 2 spot. Freshman Danil Zelenkov earned a 6-4, 6-4 decision over Lampa in third-flight action, and Thomsen downed Michael-John Every in the No. 6 match, 6-2, 6-2.
Van Gils was edged by Mozer, 4-6, 4-6, in the No. 4 spot and Lapentti fell to Morth, 2-6, 5-7, in No. 5 action.
GW returns to the court on Sunday with an 11 a.m. match at district rival Georgetown.
