No. 68 GW Men's Tennis Glides to 6-1 Win Over District Rival Georgetown
Colonials Win Fifth Straight Match With Victory Over Hoyas

WASHINGTON – The No. 68 George Washington men’s tennis team earned its fifth straight victory with a 6-1 win over district foe Georgetown on Sunday afternoon at the McDonough Outdoor Tennis Complex.
The Colonials (12-5) won at the Nos. 2 and 3 doubles spots, then posted victories at Nos. 1-5 singles to defeat the Hoyas (9-9). Three of GW’s singles wins came in straight sets.
The Buff and Blue took a 1-0 lead over Georgetown with the doubles point. The No. 2 doubles team of junior Nikita Fomin and freshman Danil Zelenkov defeated Shane Korber and Alex Tropiano, 8-5. The 80th-ranked duo of sophomore Francisco Dias and senior Leonardo Lapentti stayed undefeated at 11-0 this spring with an 8-6 victory over the Hoyas’ Daniel Khanin and Reese Milner.
In the No. 1 singles match, Fomin limited Khanin to just two games as he rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 win. Dias earned a 6-4, 6-1 decision over Charlie Caris at the No. 2 spot, and freshman Danil Zelenkov defeated Milner, 6-3, 6-4, in third-flight action.
Senior Alexander van Gils earned a three-set No. 4 victory over Korber, 6-1, 6-7, 10-8, and classmate Lapentti beat Casey Distaso, 4-6, 6-4, 10-6, in the No. 5 spot.
GW hits the road next weekend for three matches in as many days. The Colonials first travel to face conference foe Charlotte on Friday, April 12 at 1 p.m.
