No. 54 GW Men's Tennis Blanks George Mason in Regular-Season Finale
Colonials Win Inaugural #RevRivalry Match Over Patriots

FAIRFAX, Va. – No. 54 George Washington men’s tennis wrapped the regular season with a 7-0 sweep of Atlantic 10 newcomer George Mason on Saturday afternoon at the Patriots’ Mason Tennis Courts.
With the win, GW pulls within one point of Mason in the Revolutionary Rivalry. The Patriots currently lead, 8-7, in the competition between the new A-10 rivals.
The Colonials (14-6, 3-0 A-10) enter next week’s conference championship with a perfect regular-season league mark.
GW picked up the doubles point with three straight wins. The No. 1 duo of junior Francisco Dias and Julius Tverijonas, which is ranked No. 86 in the country, earned a tiebreaker win over Joe Hill and James Lange, 8-7 (4), while the No. 2 team of senior Nikita Fomin and sophomore Danil Zelenkov earned an 8-3 decision over Tanner Baine and Taylor Sargent, and the No. 3 senior tandem of Viktor Svensson and Ulrik Thomsen topped Chris Borden and Jimmy Davis, 8-4.
In singles action, Dias won his first-flight match over Davis, 7-5, 7-5, and Fomin rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Hill at the No. 2 spot. Zelenkov downed Lange, 6-4, 6-3, in the No. 3 match and Tverijonas defeated Aaron Capitel at No. 4 by scores of 6-1, 6-3. Thomsen topped Baine, 6-1, 6-2, in the No. 5 match and Svensson downed Sargent, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 6.
GW heads to Charlottesville, Va., next week for the 2014 Atlantic 10 Men’s Tennis Championship, which runs from April 17-20 at the indoor Boar’s Head Sports Club.
