MONROEVILLE, PA- The George Washington University men's tennis team was bounced from the 2009 Atlantic 10 Men's Tennis Championship in the semi-finals Saturday, 4-3, by St. Bonaventure.
St. Bonaventure started off the match by sweeping the Colonials in all three doubles matches.
The Colonials fought back in singles match-ups. Freshman Ugur Atalay defeated his SBU opponent, Jon Luce, 6-2, 6-7(10), 6-3, to extend his winning streak to eight matches. Sophomore Erik Hannah won at the No. 3 position for GW, 3-6, 6-4,6-0, while Arya Vayghan won at No. 6 6-2, 6-1.
With the Bonnies taking the doubles point, the Colonials needed to win four of six singles matches to win the match and advance in the conference tournament, instead of splitting with them.
The Colonials will face Saint Louis at 11:00 p.m. for the third place title.
