WASHINGTON, DC -The George Washington University men's tennis team continued play in their fall schedule over the weekend, competing in the Georgetown Invitational. The five-team tournament featured Georgetown, Howard, Marist, and the University of DC. In the singles' competition, it was junior Mustafa Gencsoy that took the title of tournament champion. He defeated Anthony Tan (Georgetown) in the final, 6-7 (5-7), 5-4 RET. Before downing Tan, however, Gencsoy has to get past his teammate, senior Brandon Harris, who had won his second round match over Georgetown's Jeff Schnell in epic fashion, 6-7 (7-5), 6-3, 7-6 (7-1). For Gencsoy, it was a great way to rebound after struggling at last week's UVA Invitational. He also competed in the doubles' competition at Georgetown, pairing with fellow junior Elliot Daniels. The duo won their first two matches before falling in the quarterfinals to Kevin Walsh/Jeff Schnell, a Georgetown pair that went on to win the doubles' crown. Daniels also had a good showing in singles' play, advancing to the semifinals of men's back draw before falling to Roberto Baggio (Georgetown), 7-6 (7-4), 3-6, 10-8. The men's tennis team will continue their fall play when they play at Georgetown this Friday, September 29, at 2:00 p.m. It is their first non-tournament play of the season.
