TULSA, Okla. – George Washington freshman Francisco Dias posted a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Purdue's Diego Acosta in the qualifying round of the ITA/D’Novo All-American Men’s Tennis Championships Monday. The tournament, held at Case Tennis Center at the University of Tulsa, wrapped up pre-qualifying action Sunday.

“Francisco’s serve is such a weapon,” said head coach Greg Munoz. “He overcame a bit of nerves in the beginning and overpowered Acosta to the end.”

Dias advances to the next round of singles play and will face Georgia's Hernus Pieters, the 107th-ranked singles player in the ITA, Tuesday at 11 a.m. Dias and senior Ugur Atalay also will compete in doubles action at 4 p.m., Tuesday.

In other singles action, sophomore Ulrik Thomsen dropped a tough 6-0, 6-2 match to Texas Tech’s Vitor Manzini. Thomsen went up 2-1 in the second set, but ultimately fell to Manzini.  Thomsen will have a chance to earn a bid to the Indoor National Championships with a win in the consolation round Tuesday.

Thomsen and Alexander van Gils team up tomorrow for two doubles matches, and must win both in order to advance to Wednesday’s round.
