Men's Tennis' Timmons Shines at DC Metro Championships

WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington University junior Will Timmons (Greenville, SC) advanced to the finals in Flight B singles and teamed with fellow classmate Jason Sucoll (Simsbury, CT) to win the Flight B doubles bracket to highlight play for the GW men's tennis team at the DC Metro Championships, Sept. 23-29, held at Georgetown and American.
Timmons, the top seed in the Flight B draw, needed three sets to defeat freshman teammate Sam Salyer (Minneapolis, MN), 6-4, 0-6, 10-7, to advance to the final. Fifth-seeded Jeffrey Schnell of American was crowned champion after topping Timmons, 6-2, 7-6(1), in the final. Salyer had an impressive run to the semifinals, which included a three-set win over third-seeded Erik Bildman of Georgetown, 6-2, 3-6, 10-7.
Freshman Michael Cardi (Morgantown, WV) breezed through his competition on the way to the final in Flight C singles, winning four consecutive matches in straight sets, before falling to Scott Maucher of Georgetown, 7-5, 6-3, in the final.
In doubles play, senior Matt Treadgold (Glenmont, NY) teamed with freshman Elliott Daniels (Hilton Head, SC) in Flight A. The top-ranked duo earned a tough 9-8(5) victory over Mike Keller and Fernando Ferreira of UMBC in the quarterfinals, before eventually topping third-seeded Juan Jaysingh and Nicolas Frayssinoux of American, 9-8(3), for the title.
Timmons and Sucoll defeated second-seeded Sebastian Proisy and Andrew Singer of American in the quarters in Flight B, then went on to earn an 8-6 victory over Howard's Maurice Willacy and Othmane Garma in the final.
