Kushma Drops First Match of the Fall for Men's Tennis at Navy Invitational

ANNAPOLIS, MD - GW men's tennis' No. 1 singles player, Chris Kushma, dropped his first match of the fall at the Navy Invitational Sunday to the University of Maryland's John Collins. Both Kushma and Collins came into Sunday's match without a loss, and squared off at the U.S. Naval Academy courts for supremacy in the No. 1 singles flight. Collins out-dueled Kushma 6-3, 6-2, in the final to capture the tournament title. Ugur Atalay, at No. 2 singles, defeated Sergio Wyss 2-6, 6-0, 6-2, to take the No. 2 singles flight title of the tournament. No. 4 player Yan Levinski shook a slow start this fall to take the flight title over Graham Knowlton in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4. Atalay and Kushma teamed up for No. 1 doubles play and defeated Mathias Sarrazin and Collins, 8-6. Freshman doubles duo of Garrett Lockhart and Ken Mkrtchian defeated Mike Eisenberg and Christian Mineur, 8-3. Lockhart and Mkrtchian tied with doubles pairs from Navy and Georgetown for the No. 4 doubles flight tournament title. The Colonials will get a brief break from tournament play to gear up for the ITA Region 9 Tournament on Oct. 22, hosted by Old Dominion in Norfolk, Va.
