CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The George Washington men’s tennis doubles pair of senior Ugur Atalay and freshman Francisco Dias earned back-to-back victories Friday evening to win the Orange Doubles Championship at the UVA Fall Classic in Charlottesville, Va.

After receiving a bye in the first round, Atalay and Dias glided to an 8-2 victory over Joao Maio and Parul Verma from Eastern Kentucky. The Colonials duo then matched up against East Tennessee State University’s Jeremy Bonnevalle and Roger Ordeig in the final round, earning an 8-6 victory and an Orange Doubles Championship.

“Ugur and Francisco continue to improve as a doubles team,” head coach Greg Munoz said. “They work as a unit every time they step on the court.”

The tournament was broken up into six different doubles draws on day one and will begin singles action Saturday morning.

In the Gold Doubles bracket, sophomore Viktor Svensson and junior Leonardo Lapentti dropped their first match to Eastern Kentucky’s Hugo Klientovsky and Niklas Schroeder,  8-1, but bounced back to win the consolation bracket with an 8-6 victory over Juan Ramirez and Rogerio Ribeiro from East Tennessee State.

“This was a good tournament for Viktor and Leo,” Coach Munoz said. “They did not have a chance to play with each other for long before this weekend, so I am very happy with the way they finished.”

The Colonials return to action Saturday morning for the first day of singles play.
