CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - GW men's tennis advanced in five of six singles matches and will have two doubles pairs play in the second day of the ITA Atlantic Regional at the Snyder Tennis Center on the University of Virginia campus.

"This is one of the toughest regions in the country and today will be a great test for our team," said head coach Greg Munoz. "We are excited to face some nationally ranked players today as we look to make our mark against the top schools like UVa and Virginia Tech in singles and doubles."

Alexander van Gils started the day off with a victory over Andrey Morozov in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, to advance to face Stijn Meulmans from Radford in the Round of 64. Senior Yan Levinski defeated Adrian Vodislav from William and Mary (6-4, 4-6, 6-4) to advance and take on UVa's Julen Uriguen today.

Ugur Atalay defeated UMBC's Shane Yap in two sets, 6-1, 6-2, and will face Nobu Tanaka from Longwood in his Day 2 singles match. Christopher Kushma won a pivotal tie-breaker in the first set to 7-6(4), 6-3 over Sebastien Fauchet. Kushma will face Thomas Dehaen of Radford in his Round of 64 match-up. Erik Hannah won his first day match-up against Collin Laffey, 6-2, 6-3, to advance to face JMU's Bertrand Moulin.

In doubles action, Kushma and van Gils, as well as Hannah and Atalay, received Round of 64 byes. Levinski and Viktor Svensson fell to Morgan State's Kevon Charles and Eric Ward, 8-5. Kushma and van Gils will face Maryland's Sergio Wyss and Grahm Knowlton, while Hannah and Atalay will face UVa's Reese Milner and Dino Dell'Orto in the afternoon session.
