PRINCETON, NJ - The George Washington University men's tennis team concluded their 2007 fall schedule at the Wilson/ITA Northeast Regional Championships, held over the weekend at Jadwin Gymnasium on the campus of Princeton.

Both main draw singles finalists, as well as the championship doubles team, will qualify for the 2007 ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, to be held Nov. 1-4 in Columbus, Ohio. The Wilson/ITA Northeast Regional is one of nine men's ITA regionals taking this place this week and next week throughout the nation.

The Colonials sent four players to the tournament, including senior Mustafa Gencsoy (Istanbul, Turkey/Ayazaga Isik), who recorded a pair of wins. As the fifth-seed, Gencsoy was granted a first-round bye before opening play on Saturday, with a victory over Brown's Chris Lee, 6-4, 6-3. The next day he got past Jonathan Wong from Colgate, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 to advance to the quarterfinals, where he fell to Harvard's Dan Nguyen, 6-7(5), 6-1, 6-1. Gencsoy, a three-time A-10 All-Conference selection, improved his record this fall to 10-3 overall.

The team-leader in overall victories, Gencsoy paired with sophomore Ryan Schlachter (Dallas, TX/The June Shelton School) in doubles play. The two won their opening match, 8-4, over Nick Savage-Pollock/Fredi Voorman (UMBC), before falling in the next round to Dave Jackson/Irfan Shamasdin (UMBC), 8-4.

Also competing was senior Sam Salyer (Minneapolis, MN/St. Paul Academy), who was 1-1 in qualifying matches to earn a spot in the tournament, where UMBC's Savage-Pollock upended him, 6-1, 6-3.

The Wilson/ITA Northeast Regional Championships marked the end of George Washington's fall schedule and the team will be inactive for three months, returning to action January 20, 2008, when they face off against both the College of Charleston and Old Dominion, in Norfolk, VA.
