Men's Tennis Wraps Competition at Wilson/ITA NE Regionals

HANOVER, NH - George Washington University sophomores Mustafa Gencsoy (Istanbul, Turkey) and Sam Salyer (Minneapolis, MN) were the lone Colonials in action this past weekend, Oct. 20-23, at the 2005 Wilson/ITA Northeast Regional Championships, hosted by Dartmouth at the Alexis Boss Tennis Center. Gencsoy and Salyer competed both in singles and doubles play for the Colonials. Competing in the main singles draw, Gencsoy lost his opening round match to Virginia Tech's Nicholas Delgado, 7-6 (8), 6-2. On Thursday, Oct. 20, Salyer fell to seventh-seeded Gordie Milchutsky from Rutgers, 6-2, 6-2 in the opening round of the singles qualifying bracket. In doubles action, Gencsoy and Salyer opened with an 8-5 victory over Rutgers' Tyler Deming and Milchutsky to advance. But in the Round of 32, Sasha Ermakov and Brian Wan from Harvard ended Gencsoy and Salyer's run, 8-5. The ITA Northeast Regionals marks GW's final tournament of the Fall season and it is not back in action until its Spring opener on Friday, Jan. 20 at Old Dominion in Norfolk, VA, at 1 p.m.
